"Your future is created by what you do today, not tomorrow."
Robert Kiyosaki

What this quote means is that in order for you to start to have a bright future you need to start now! There is no excuse for tomorrow, you need to start now if you want to have a successful future. For example, take me for instance. I am barley a freshman in high school and I have already accomplished some tasks in order for me to go to a good college and better future. I have been elected the first ninth grade president of the this school year. I am trying out for my school's first football team. I also have straight A's! So, as you can see, you don't start tomorrow; you start today and right now! So, choose the right and start your own amazing future and make a bright one!

"There is no justification ever for choosing any part of what you know to be evil."

Ayn Rand
(novelist, philosopher, playwright, screenwriter)

What this quote means is that you should never ever choose the wrong. Choose the wrong also refers to evil! You never want to choose evil. You also want to be something better than evil because you are choosing to represent yourself as a terrible person. So remember this, always choose the right rather tah choosing the wrong! CTR!NEVE

Tip 5: Keep a List of Questions
When you feel confused about something you’re reading, write down any questions you have. Sometimes your questions are answered as you read further. If not, don’t be afraid to ask for help. Remember, teachers create assignments; they've read the texts and are familiar with them. When you have specific questions, your teachers can provide answers that will help you better understand the material. Learning is rooted in questions developed and asked by the learner.
Asking questions to yourself, to the teachers, and to others, is great learning method. When you cease to ask questions, you cease to exist to a great extent. Read actively by silently asking questions as you read. Questioning immerses you into the material you are reading and therefore will expand you mental capacities more than almost anything else.
The philosopher Sir Francis Bacon said, “Knowledge is power.” Improving your reading comprehension is the key to gaining important knowledge and making the most of your education. So pick up a book… and a pen.

"When I was teaching basketball, I urged my players to try their hardest to improve on that very day, to make that practice a masterpiece. This rule is even more important in life than basketball. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be. It begins by trying to make each day count and knowing you can never make up for a lost day."

John Wooden

What this quote means is that you never quit. Even if you are outnumbered, you still continue and fight for what you stand for. Let no one ever step on you you. Yes you may fall, but remember this: you will always pick yourself up afterwards! So as long as you defend yourself, you should be outstanding. And by doing this you will always choose the right!!!

Tip 3: Do Research
Literacy Critics have written vast numbers of analytically and critical pieces on countless books. If you’re having trouble understanding a particular test, do some research and see what knowledgeable sources have to say about it. In addition to increasing your comprehension, you’ll also be showing initiative, something teachers always like to see. Always use legitimate and scholarly sources, not condensed study guides. Going the extra mile in your research elevates your achievement 10-fold.
Tip 4: Use a Dictionary
Make sure you have access to a dictionary when you’re reading. You can often figure out the meaning of an unfamiliar word by using context clues, but sometimes you can’t. Rather than simply skipping over the words you don’t know, take the time to look them up. The results are well worth the effort. Your comprehension will increase greatly, and you’ll build your vocabulary at the same time.

"Every time I've done something that doesn't feel right, it's ended up not being right"

Mario Cuomo

What this quote means is that you are not supposed to do the wrong thing! It is common sense. An example is, lets say you steal a pencil from a teacher. You know you did wrong, so you must do the right thing and return it. So, never choose to do the wrong, but always do the right thing!

5 Tips for success
Reading and writing go hand to hand. The better you understand a test, the more likely you are to successfully communicate your thoughts about it in writing. So it’s important to develop strong skills in both areas. With that in mind, here’s how to improve your reading comprehension.
Tips 1-2
Tip 1: Annotate
Be an active reader. Instead of passively reading a text, take notes about important story elements, key factual information and significant ideas in the art.
Tip 2: Note the Author’s Writing Style
Every author writes with a purpose, using deliberate methods to successfully relate specific information to the audience. When you’re reading, look for patterns in the author’s writing. For example, you may notice a repetition of key words, phrases or symbols – or the use of a distinct type of sentence structure. Authors employ these writing strategies to help readers comprehend a central argument or theme, so be sure to explore how these techniques create meaning.

The Three Don'ts

Don't whine
Don't complain
Don't make excuses

John Wooden

These three quotes mean similarly like the ones yesterday. They also refer to the nevers. So in other words you should not ever do these as well. Never whine. If you always whine people will not like you. Never complain. You should never complain. Most complaining should be about stuff that will help you. Never make excuses! There should never be excuses, not unless it is life threatening! Choose the right!

3. Set Attainable Goals
If you’re having trouble writing a 25-page paper for class because it seems like such a big job, don’t focus on that final number. Break the paper down and consider each section of your paper individually. You can handle any project in small chunks.
4. Find a Social Support Network
Create a group of people around you who want to help you succeed. Mentors can be teachers or family friends who can give you guidance and help you develop new skills. Counselors can help you with planning your courses and starting to explore colleges. You can also reach out to friends and peers who can motivate you by listening and sharing ideas.
5. Acknowledge Your Accomplishments
Give yourself a quick reward when you complete an assignment or task. Take a walk, send a email, get a snack. Then move on to the next project.

5 Tips for Staying Motivated Tips 1-2

5 Tips for Staying Motivated
                                                       Tips 1-2
To succeed in high school and college, you have to do your best at all times. But sometimes it’s hard to stay motivated, even when you really care about the work you’re doing. Here are five ways to stay on the right track.

1.     Focus on High –Impact Adjectives
They key to success in school is staying focused on your course work. Make a list to get an overall picture of your workload before you start to tackle any of it. Then, make a plan. Although it’s tempting to do the simplest assignments first, those that take more time and effort to accomplish are probably the ones that you’ll learn the most from.
To determine what your priorities are, rank your assignments in the order of their importance. Then rearrange your time and devote more energy toward those that have the greatest impact on your course work and grades. For example, even though all homework assignments are important, studying for a midterm exam takes priority over writing a paragraph for English class. As you complete each task, think of it as another step on your way to college success.
2.     Create New Challenges
Changing your approach can help you stay interested in what you’re doing. If you've been given an assignment similar to one you’ve done in the past, think about it in a different way. If you wrote an essay for a creative writing assignment last year, try a poem this time. For book reports pick a history book instead of another biography.

"You have only always to do what is right. It will become easier by practice, and you enjoy in the midst of your trials the pleasure of an approving conscience."

Robert E. Lee

What this quote really means is that always have to do right so your conscience can be clear. If you just try to hide the wrong, you will feel guilty. So never do the wrong, but always do the right. If you always do the right you have nothing to worry about, so please take this quote into consideration! An example would be a person going to dental school. He has a huge exam coming up. Now he can either study or not. SO this person makes up a lot of flash cards, now I mean a lot. So he studied single day  And guess what, he passed the exam with a perfect score.

Take advantage of Any Free Time
If you have a study period or a long bus ride, use the time to review notes, prepare for an upcoming class or start your homework. Flash cards are a great learning tool. They are easy to make, easy to handle, and are a marvelous tool to help you learn and remember anything. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each index card and connect the stack of your flash cards with a ring. Then the cards are bound and not flopping around. Flash cards bond like this act like a small book with pages. You can even have separate ringed stacks for each subject. WHATEVER YOU WANT TO REMEMBER PUT IT ON A CARD.
Study with a Friend
Get together with friends and classmates to quiz each other, compare notes and predict test questions. Consider joining a study group.
Communicate
If you have concerns about the amount or type of homework you have, you may want to talk to your family, teachers or counselor. They can help you understand how much time you need to allot for homework and how to manage your tasks.
Celebrate Your Achievement
Reward yourself for hitting milestones or doing something well.

Keep Things in Perspective
Know how much weight each assignment or test carries, and use your time accordingly. Don’t waste time, but be wise and smart. Doing the most important things first is being wise and smart.
Get More Involved
Keep your mind from wandering by taking notes, underlining sections, discussing topics with others or relating your homework to something you’re studying in another class. Learn actively and not passively. Be anxiously engaged in your studies and you will have a great experience. Demonstrate a good attitude toward home assignments, and you will begin to love doing it.
Organize the Information
People process information in different ways. Some people like to draw pictures or charts to digest information, others prefer to read out loud or make detailed outlines. Try to find the methods that work the best for you. Ask your teacher for recommendations if you’re having trouble.

Take Control of Homework So It Doesn't Control You Part 1

Take Control of Homework
So It Doesn't Control You
Part 1
Although very few students love homework, it does serve a purpose. Homework helps you:
·        Reinforce what you've learned during the day.
·        Build study habits that are essential in college.
·        Prepare for your classes.
·        Get a sense of progress.

Here are some tips to help you deal with homework more efficiently and effectively.

Set the Mood
Create a good study area with everything you need (for example,a calculator). If you don't have a quiet place at home, try your school or local library.

Know Where to Begin
Make a list of everything you need to do, and note all deadlines. Do the more difficult assignments first, so you don't have to face them at the end.

Study at the Same Time Every Day
Even if you don't have homework every night, use the time to review notes. If sitting down at work is part of your normal routine, you'll approach it with less dread. Also, you'll become a pro time productivity.

What this quote means is that you need to do right. Even if you suffer from doing so. This remarkable statement suits all of us. We all have done something wrong at one point we all have to admit to this. But we told the truth and we suffered. Whether it be good or bad. An example would you having a test. You didn't study. So you decide to cheat off your next door partner. You did wrong and feel guilty  So you tell your teacher and she will understand and give you a zero for cheating. So, you did good, but felt like you suffered. Remember never do wrong.

Review your notes the day you take them and all your notes once a week. That way, you won’t need to study as much when it’s test time. You've been doing the work all along. Try out the Cornell system, but if it doesn’t work for you, experiment with other methods. Ask your classmates how they take notes or ask a teacher for advice. Taking good notes requires practice, like any other skill. And the more you work at it now, the more prepared you’ll be to take notes in college.

Start by using the main section of your page to take down your notes during class. Be sure to leave space on the left side of the page and the bottom. Things to keep in mind:
1.      Get the speaker’s main points. Don’t write down every word you hear.
2.      Leave blanks in your notes to add explanations later.
3.      Organize as you write. Pay attention to cues such as repetition and emphasis.
4.      Indicate main and supporting points as you go.
5.      Jot down key vocabulary, important facts and formulas.
6.      Ask questions. If you’re confused, it’s better to ask while the material is fresh in your mind.

Emphasis on the Written Word
Most of the communication, as well as the course work, in distance learning classes is written. That’s a plus, because the focus on the written word gives you the opportunity to develop as a writer – and strong writing skills are essential to academic success. However, if writing is a serious weakness for you, virtual learning may not be the best educational option until you improve your skills. Yes, most of distance education is the written word; therefore, you need to be a good reader, love to read, and love writing also. Most of your assignments will be written and submitted to the instructor in the written format. Your penmanship needs to be excellent, spelling great, sentence structure above average, vocabulary extraordinary. You need to have online access with reliable equipment. If your Internet communications at home isn’t working, you  can’t do online education from home and will need to go to someplace where you do have access to the Internet.
Decide Whether It’s Right for You
Distance education isn’t for everyone , but it just might be for you. You really should seek it out and give it a try. You never know until you try. You might even fall in love with distance education. While distance education may be the perfect alternative for some students, it’s not the right choice for everyone. So carefully consider your unique needs and interests and give distance education a try; then, decide if it is right for you.

·         Lack of in-person interaction: Some educators argue that both teacher-student and student-student contact are essential to learning. In a distance-learning classroom, you may be able to participate in class discussions online in chat rooms, message boards or Web conferences – but it’s not the same as being with other student in a classroom.
·         Different level of quality: Many distance-education programs supply an excellent learning experience, but others may not. Research any program before signing on to make sure it’s rigorous enough. If you are choosing your own program, look into its accreditation before enrolling.
·         The need to self-start: Distance education lets you make your own schedules. If you have a hard time getting motivated, this might not be the ideal setting for you.

·        Independence and time management: Taking courses online lets you hone your ability to work on your own. You also gain experience in managing your time efficiently.
·        A flexible schedule: Schools can only provide a certain number of class periods in a single day, and there may not be enough time for you to take everything you want. Because distance education lets you take classes outside regular school hours, it gives you the flexibility to explore all your areas of interest.
·        Advanced and specialized classes: Some schools can’t provide advanced or specialized classes. Distance education gives you the chance to gain experience in areas that would otherwise remain out of reach.
